Weekly Classes in Aberdeen, Edinburgh and Glasgow
Scottish Youth Theatre offers a range of classes for all abilities aged between 3 - 25 years, delivered in 10 week blocks.
All classes are held on weekends in Aberdeen, Edinburgh and Glasgow. Saturday classes in Aberdeen, Edinburgh and Glasgow. Sunday classes available only in Glasgow.
The Summer Term of classes runs from 27 April to 30 June 2013. Bookings for the Summer Term of Weekly Drama and Dance Classes are now open - book online today.

Classes focus on the individual, using performance to increase confidence and self esteem whilst providing a safe environment for young people to learn and express themselves.
All tutors are enthusiastic and experienced theatre practitioners.
Drama Classes
Skint Knees
The Skint Knees Programme is delivered weekly in Glasgow at Scottish Youth Theatre and at the Festival Theatre in Edinburgh.
Skint Knees workshops are highly interactive, exciting, young person centred theatre activities. Encouraging motivation for learning, these workshops instil openness to new thinking and ideas by promoting independent thinking. All participants will develop and communicate their own beliefs and views of the world; work in partnership and teams; develop their own ideas; and solve problems creatively.
- Junior Skint Knees 3-4:
Through games, songs, storytelling and creative play, the young people build imagination, self control, interpersonal, social and performance skills. Class exercises regularly are tutor-led, following a creative journey that encourages participants to put forward their own ideas and explore their creativity.

- Junior Skint Knees 5-7:
Through games, songs, storytelling, creating characters and improvisation, the young people develop performance capabilities, interpersonal and social skills, imagination and self control. Participants are encouraged to work in groups to build on communication and group work skills. The classes allow participants to begin to develop an awareness of themselves in relation to others.

- Skint Knees 8-10:
Using drama based exercises in voice, movement, character and improvisation the young people will create and perform their own pieces of work, responding to a stimulus. The group will offer creative feedback to each other to begin to build on the skills required when creating and performing. This class promotes self awareness, interpersonal and social skills with a particular emphasis on communication and participation in a fun and lively environment.

- SYT 11-14:
Exploring techniques and exercises in improvisation, text, voice, movement and character, the group will devise short pieces of work, in response to a creative stimulus. The group will offer constructive criticism to improve and expand upon their own ideas. The class will work both as a whole but also by splitting into smaller groups. The emphasis is on building upon the individual’s interpersonal, social and performance skills.

- Seniors 15-25:
As a whole and in smaller groups the class will explore various creative stimuli. The class will use drama techniques in devising, writing, voice, movement and other practical skills and be encouraged to use these when creating work. Communication and peer support through constructive criticism is integral to the progression of the classes. The emphasis is to build upon the individual’s performance, communication, self awareness, self expression, interpersonal and social skills.

Dance Classes
In Glasgow, Scottish Youth Theatre offers a selection of dance classes on a Saturday.
- Tiny Twisters: Creative Movement (age 2.5 - 4)
This fun class allows participants to build confidence, spatial and body awareness, self expression and communication through creative play, storytelling and movement.
- Tiny Twisters: Dance Technique (age 3 - 4)
A fun introduction to the basics of classical technique using simple choreographed routines.
- Junior Jumpers: Creative Movement (age 5 - 7)
Using creative play, story, imagery and music, this class builds spatial awareness and confidence within the young person. Encouraging expression, this class will allow the young people to creatively explore and expand their own physical capabilities.
- Junior Jumpers: Dance Technique (age 5 - 7)
Ballet to develop posture, tap to develop musicality, improvisation and jazz to let young people find their style through self expression. Junior Jumpers aims to allow young people to reach their full potential and have fun while doing so.
- Streetdance (age 8 - 14)
Following an aerobic warm up, to the latest tunes, you'll move on to putting together some short sequences of moves, or learning some basic footwork and tricks such as freezes, jumps and spins. These will then be built up into a continuous dance so that by the end of the term the whole class will have learnt the choreography – just like the backing dancers in a music video. This class builds confidence in dance and performance techniques with its streetdance attitude.
- Just Dance (age 12+)
Develop rhythm, co-ordination and body awareness, through the latest moves, as the class learn an evolving routine to perform. This is an upbeat class that teaches many different styles and techniques.
