Roadshow 2013

Scottish Youth Theatre is delighted to have received funding from The Robertson Trust and The Gordon Fraser Charitable Trust enabling us to recommence delivery of our popular touring project, ‘Roadshow’.

Throughout September, October and November 2013 Scottish Youth Theatre will be travelling to schools, community groups and youth theatres across northern and central Scotland offering FREE drama workshops!
The workshop programme will be delivered by a team of theatre arts professionals with experience of working with young people of all ages.
  • The Power of the Ensemble (2hrs) S1+
Exploring and developing skills and techniques for ensemble performance, the young people will develop and present their own piece of theatre using specially commissioned texts from Scottish Youth Theatre and incorporating movement and voice. This is a chance to experience the exciting potential for performing as an ensemble.
  • Independence? (2hrs) S1+
Engage in the debate of Scottish independence and explore the question, ‘what does Scotland mean to you?’ The vote may not be until next year but now is the hour – to seek, to ask, to find. Participants will identify their aspirations, fears, questions and views on a vote that will create this country’s future providing opportunities for deepening understanding of culture in Scotland and what the independence referendum means for young people today.
  • Page to Stage (2hrs) S1+
Creatively explore staging, characterisation and direction using tried and tested theatre techniques to gain a fuller understanding of a text and its relevance to young people today.
Text to choose from:
1. Shakespeare (Macbeth or A Midsummer Night’s Dream)
2. Scottish Contemporary (Mary Queen of Scots Got Her Head Chopped Off or Edwin Morgan poetry)
  • Intro to Devising Theatre (2hrs) S1+
Games, exercises, improvisation and devising; participants can learn and experience drama skills within a fun, relaxed and creative environment. Focus is on building group work skills and developing confidence while enhancing learning. Using fast paced theatrical exercises participants will develop ideas from a range of stimuli including props, images, and music to create their own unique pieces of theatre.
All workshops are suitable for any experience level as Scottish Youth Theatre can tailor make each one for your group.
Maximum number of participants for each workshop is 33.
