Summer Festival 2015

 

Summer Festival is Scottish Youth Theatre’s flagship event. With intensive performance courses happening nationally allowing young people to build on their personal, social and performance skills in a professional theatre environment. Now in its 39th year, Summer Festival offers a number of courses for young people aged 8-25.

Performance & Production Learning Programme

Ages 16-25
Glasgow, 6 weeks, 29 June-8 August

Over 6 weeks, candidates will experience master classes in voice, movement, rehearsal and performance processes and character development. Candidates will work with a professional Director, Designer, Choreographer and Musical Director to produce a full run of technically supported performances. Successful candidates will receive an SQA credit rated qualification at SCQF Level 7 with 29 Credit Points. Summer Festival 2015 show: The Thebans by Liz Lochhead.

Performance & Production Course

Ages 16-25
Glasgow, 4 weeks, 6 July-1 August

The Performance and Production Course offers young people the opportunity to be part of one of Scottish Youth Theatre’s main house productions whilst developing performance skills and stagecraft.

Content:
Skills workshops in voice, movement and other disciplines.
Work with professional director, designer, choreographer, composer and technical team.

Technical Theatre Course

Ages 14-25
Glasgow, 4 weeks, 6 July-1 August

The Technical Theatre Course gives participants the opportunity to experience the skills and disciplines involved in technical theatre and production.

Content:
Skills workshops in lighting, sound, stage management and other disciplines.
Mentored by professional stage managers, designers and technicians.
Hands on experience with lighting, sound equipment and SFX.
Responsible for operating on all main house production(s).

Intermediate Course

Ages 14-18
Glasgow, 3 weeks, 13 July-1 August

The Intermediate Course allows participants to experience being part of a Summer Festival main house shows as part of the ensemble or to devise their own show.

Content:
Skills workshops in voice, movement and other disciplines.
Work with professional director, designer, choreographer, composer and technical team.
Ensemble Course option: This course allows participants to experience running to full production without the stresses and time commitments required of the main characters. The group often play minor characters and the chorus in the production. Summer Festival 2015 show: The Thebans by Liz Lochhead
Devising Course option: This course allows participants to form their own company to work with professional theatre practitioners to design, devise and develop their own new piece of theatre based on the given theme. Summer Festival 2015 show: Devised piece based on the theme 'Collateral Damage'.

Foundation Courses

Ages 12-15
Aberdeen, Edinburgh & Glasgow, 2 weeks, Dates TBC

A popular performance course, ideal for young people who want to develop their theatre techniques and skills. Over 2 weeks, participants will work on acting skills, choreography, music and characterisation to create and rehearse a devised piece of theatre to be performed in a professional theatre venue on the last day.

Junior Courses

Ages 8-11
Aberdeen, Edinburgh & Glasgow, 1 week, Dates TBC

A fun introduction to the world of drama and performance, ideal for young people who want to further their skills and knowledge. On the course participants will work on general drama skills, explore movement, characterisation and storytelling to create a unique performance to be presented in a professional theatre venue on the last day.
